Will using Windows XP compromise the security of my business?

Microsoft has announced that effective April 8, 2014 they will no longer provide technical assistance for Windows XP.  This includes automatic updates that help protect your PC. They will also stop providing Microsoft Security Essentials for download on Windows XP on this date.

What does this mean for you?
If you continue to use Windows XP after support ends, your computer will still work. However, it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses because Microsoft will no longer be offering the security patches and updates that are needed to keep your computer safe and secure from hackers.

As more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter greater numbers of apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.

Also, by not upgrading your computer system you could be opening your business up to risks and lawsuits due to a lack of proper computer security.  Just think of how many issues Target has had with their security breach this past holiday season.

How does keeping Windows XP effect my business security system?
If you have a CCTV System, Access Control System, CRM, Credit Card Processing or a POS system that is being powered by Windows XP it may become more vulnerable to security risks, viruses, and hacking as Microsoft will no longer provide security patches for the Windows XP platform.

What should your business do to avoid having these issues?
Its recommended that you upgrade your operating system.  By upgrading your operating system to a newer version of Windows, Microsoft will continue to offer support with security patches and updates that are needed to keep your computer safe from hackers.
